GARAGE SALE INFORMATION EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW

If I want to have a garage sale do I need a permit? Yes. However, Section 824.02 Requires all occupants to obtain a permit, there is NO FEE.

Are there any restrictions as to how many I can have a year? Yes.  You are permitted up to two sales per year for a total of six (6) days, 9:00 am until sundown Monday through Saturday and noon until sundown on Sundays.


Are there restrictions on the type of merchandise? Yes. Garage sales shall offer only used and unwanted items of personal property owned by the resident of the property where the sale is held. No new merchandise shall be offered for sale and no new merchandise from other sources shall be brought in and offered for sale.

Where can I place my signs? You can only place signs advertising your sale in the yard of the location hosting the sale.  NO signs shall be placed on tree lawn, or utility poles or property other than the sale location as per section 824.06 and 1293.10 of the Codified Ordinances of Geneva.
